The Interview

Once you have completed all written sections of your application and had an initial call with our team, you'll be able to book an interview with one of our friendly interviewers who are all Camp Canada alumni.

The interview will be an informal video call on Whereby. Remember, the interview determines your acceptance into the program, so approach it professionally. But don't overthink it! We want to get to know you in a relaxed setting, so just be yourself.

Types of Questions We’ll Ask

The purpose of the interview is to find out in more detail about your personality, skills, and childcare experience. We will ask specific questions about your skills, experience working with children and your previous work or volunteer experience. We'll also discuss the job role you're looking for and camp-type preferences. This will help us to find a camp that is a perfect fit for you!

What If I Don't Have Childcare Experience?

Don’t panic, you may have more childcare experience than you think! Before your interview take some time to think hard about your previous experience - perhaps you have a ton of cousins who you have babysat, or maybe you have a young neighbour that you have taught to play football in your backyard. Think about your camp skills as well, have you ever assisted a friend or give tips to a beginner? You likely have more informal experience than you realise.

Tips For A Successful Interview

Your Camp Canada interview will be informal, but you should certainly take some time to prepare ahead of time. Here are some things to consider when preparing for your interview:

Do A Test Call

Test your Whereby link the day before your interview so you can familiarise yourself with the platform and ensure that your microphone, camera and internet are working properly.

Research

It’s always a good idea to do a bit of research before heading into an interview. You should take a thorough look through our website so that you’ll understand how the program works. This will help figure out what you still don’t know about the program and help you think of relevant questions to ask during your interview.

Use Open Body Language

Remember, even though you're not physically in the same room, your body language can still make a big impression. Sit up straight, avoid slouching, smile and maintain eye contact with the camera as if you were speaking to the interviewer in person. These non-verbal cues can significantly impact how you're perceived. By demonstrating confidence and enthusiasm through your body language, you'll show that you're engaged and interested in the program to our interviewer.

Wake Up Early

When you book your interview, be sure to take note of the time difference to ensure you show up at the correct time. We know that interviews can sometimes be at odd hours due to time differences, but be sure you are fully awake, energized, and ready to impress.

Clean Up Your Space

This is optional, but FYI, we can see everything that is behind you on the video screen!

Dress Appropriately

Summer camp is casual so you can be too, but be sure that your clothes are clean, intact, and camp-appropriate. No profanities or revealing clothing, please and thank you.

Be Punctual

You should always be ready a few minutes before your scheduled interview time. If you are delayed for any reason, be sure to send us an email to let us know.

We hope this blog has been helpful in preparing you for your Camp Canada interview. Remember, the most important thing is to be yourself and showcase your unique qualities. By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to securing your dream summer camp job in Canada.
